SeaFarer's use of docking windows allows it to maximize the amount of chart area it shows. The Navigation window is shown in the upper right and contains basic navigation information. The GPS status window is below the Navigation window and provides the status of your GPS connection. The Steering information window is next and it displays the steering information when a route is active. At the bottom right of the main window, the cursor's location, bearing to the ship and distance from the ship are displayed. This is handy if you are trying to quickly gauge the distance and bearing of objects on the chart to the ship. |

The Navigation window provides your position, speed, course, and depth. A unique feature of the Navigation window is the compass for your heading, it can either be a large compass display or a smaller tape display. The benefit of using the larger compass is that a line will also be shown for the bearing to the next waypoint when you are following an active route. |
Even if you do not have a GPS connected to SeaFarer, you can still use SeaFarer to plot your positon. By using the Dead Reckoning mode, you can provide an initial position and then by modifying the course and speed you can maintain your ability to see where you are on the chart. This feature is also very useful if your GPS fails or its batteries run dry. |
|
SeaFarer has a built in ruler that allows you to measure the distance of any point on the chart. By simply clicking on 2 places on the chart, you can get the distance and bearing. |
|
SeaFarer also has the ability to change its display to meet the current conditions. Here is SeaFarer in "Night" mode. The red is used to help the Navigator keep his/her night vision. |

Automatic Identification Systems have been heralded as the greatest advance in navigation safety since the invention of radar. SeaFarer/LX has this state of the art system as a standard feature. |
|
|
SeaFarer/LX displays the targets and their names on your screen. |

Unlike other systems that take up screen real estate with a table, you can see the details of the target by just holding your mouse over it. |
| Of course, SeaFarer also has a table view that you can turn on. The table lists such items as; Vessel Name, Call sign, Destination, Position, Speed and Course,CPA and Status. | |
Tide prediction for US waters is also a standard feature. The predictions are provide by the excellent XTide program. |
|
| Turning on the tides display will have SeaFarer show the tide stations as vertical red and white rulers. If you hold the cursor over a tide station marker you will be given the name of that station. If you click on the marker you will be given a graphical tide prediction. | |
| This is the graphical tide prediction generated by clicking on a tide station. | |
